The Adelaide Carnival
played host to over 60 teams of 4 players from a range of schools who travelled
from New Zealand, all states of Australia, South Africa and England. The
players, coaches, supporters, parents and golf lovers who took part in the
Carnival and supported their young people were extremely enthusiastic about the
Carnival and many schools have already indicated their teams will be travelling
to Stellenbosch just out of Cape Town.
As previously the
format will involve four rounds of good competitive golf on outstanding courses.
There will be a break between the second and third rounds which will provide an
opportunity for all participants to enjoy a unique cultural experience combining
an educational experience, networking amongst the young people and a memorable
day of fun and friendship.
All rounds will be
morning shotgun starts and the 4 courses we will use are first class.
They are Stellenbosch
Golf Club, De Zalze Golf Club, Erinvale Golf Club and Devonvale Golf
Club. The Clubs are very keen to be involved and to ensure an outstanding golf
experience for all who take part in the 3rd World Schools Golf
Challenge.
Accommodation has
been secured at the Hotel Protea Stellenbosch. It is intended that all teams
stay at the Protea and that a “Tournament Village” atmosphere will be created as
was suggested by participants at Adelaide. This will have the benefit of
allowing players and supporters to meet and mingle and create greater
interaction beyond that enjoyed on the golf course.
The Hotel Protea
Stellenbosch has a lot of experience catering for large school groups and can
provide quad, triple and double rooms at attractive rates which include
breakfasts and is ideally situated between two of the courses and in close
proximity of the others.
Final costings are
being put in place now and we will be able to advise those very
shortly.
